Season underway!

The 2009-10 is now underway amidst team last minute team changes due to unforseen player unavailability. Sadly this has meant we have had to withdraw our PLANETS team before they even orbited! However we still have 7 teams in the D&DTTA leagues though cover is tight with many teams down to the minimum of three registered players. It really will be a case of all hands on decks to support the club this season!

On Thursday 17th Sept we had our official opening night and ran our Handicap Tournament. This was won by Steven Sim who defeated Stephen Lowrie in the final.

Club balls - white ones anyway - have arrived in the post and are in the office reception & to be collected at the first home match by the team captains. Orange ones are due soon!

A new team called PLANETS has been requested, on behalf of Plebeians to the D&DTTA committee ,to enter into Division 3. If approved this will mean we have EIGHT teams in the leagues and will make us the largest club in the district. It will also mean that we require the subscriptions to come in to Forthill soon as the registration fees are due at the end of this month and we have a large bill to pay! Please please try to get your fees paid asap. Player registrations will be required by the end of the month but there is little change to the teams from last year and David & I have discussed any such changes with those concerned so hopefully all will be fine.

Preparing for the new season ahead!

TEAM ENTRIES for the new season which will start sometime in September will be required for the 15th August and all fees to the D&DTTA need to be paid by the 31st August. Members are therefore asked to dig deep and pay as soon as they can so that 'Plebeians' can pay up front. Typically the costs will be well over a THOUSAND pounds so we need the money in as soon as you can please! If player availabilty allows then we will enter another team into the third division. Subscription forms have been emailed out to as many members as possible.
There will be the traditional club handicap event prior to the start of the new season to get people back into playing - details will be announced later but it will be sometime in the first half of September.

Condolences

On behalf of everyone associated with Plebeians Table Tennis Club, especially members of years gone by, I would like to express our club's sadness on hearing of the bereavement of one of our former members - Jean Dunbar. Jean was always full of laughter and made table tennis great fun across in the old cricket pavillion where many of us grew up to love the sport in the pleasure of her company. Perhaps outshone by the playing ability of her late sister Bessie and the honourable service given to the sport by her brother Ian ( former D&DTTA Chairman ), Jean provided the laughs and encouragement to many of us in those days and she will be fondly remembered. Thanks for the memories Jean, rest in peace.

Welcome to our newly created BLOG!

A warm welcome to everyone who visits this BLOG and learns more about our table tennis club @ Forthill. We are one of the biggest in the area and are very active and successful in many local competitions. Let us make this BLOG a valuable source of communication amongst our members and the envy of the D&DTTA! Please keep me up to date with any articles you would like published.

Last night we held our AGM and David Sim was re-elected as Club Chairperson and Ian Hunter as the Secretary/Treasurer. We aim this year to co-opt players on to a team selection committee before submitting our entries for the season ahead. If you wish to be part of this please let me know!

Congratulations to Paul McCabe who won our Club Singles Championship last night in a display of controlled attacking table tennis. Earlier in the season the very promising Kenny Beaton won the Club Junior Singles and the Junior Club Handicap. David Sim won the inaugural R L Forman Handicap competition.

Highlights of the past D&DTTA season are Thumpers gaining promotion to Division 1 as champions and Kenny Beaton winning the Div 2 averages. Missiles won the Stanley Doubles competition. The district prizegiving is to be at Forthill Sports Club on Friday 15th May and there are too many successes from Plebeians to mention on this inaugural posting - Plebeians had a very successful season! There will be a meal and a quiz at the 15th May event.

All members, especially junior members should note that Ward Road Gym is open on Monday and Friday evenings throughout the summer for practice, from 7-9pm for a cost of £3.

A date for your diary - Sunday 10th May - there is to be an OPEN DAY at Forthill Sports Club and it will be necessary for Plebeians players to be there that afternoon. Please make an effort to come along - I will be in touch though to remind you all!

Finally may I remind you that club shirts are still available at an excellent price of £10 in emerald green. We would like to see all Plebeians players in club colours.
